Within the framework of cooperation and partnership between the Southern African Region and Germany, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat and the SADC Ambassadors Group in Germany are organizing in partnership with the Southern Africa Initiative of German Business (SAFRI), the German-African Business Association (Afrika-Verein) together with the Federation of German Industries (BDI) and the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) a SADC Energy Infrastructure Development Conference in Germany. The Conference will take place from 4th to 5th March, 2010 in Frankfurt / Main.
The two-day conference aims at informing the German business community about regional energy infrastructure projects in the SADC member states as well as providing possibilities to get in contact with relevant representatives for potential co-operations.
Founded in 1992 from a loose alliance of countries, the SADC today consists of 15 member states from the Southern African region and aims at fostering regional integration on a political and economic basis between the member states. In 2008, the SADC member states have launched a free trade area.
The SADC region has recorded stable and positive growth rates and will continue this trend in the near future. There is, therefore, a need for an extensive investment in the energy sector in order to provide sufficient capacity for further economic growth in the region.
